Caring for Your Dental Veneers

Posted .

If you aren’t happy with the appearance of your teeth, don’t forget to consider the benefits of dental veneers. Veneers are thin shells placed over your natural teeth. These shells are made to match the color of your teeth and to cover imperfections such as gaps, chips, and spots on your pearly whites. While your veneers are strong and built to last, there are a few things you should do to care for them.

Normal brushing and flossing won’t damage your veneers. In fact, brushing and flossing is extremely important if you’re interested in preserving your veneers for as long as possible. So you should remember to brush your teeth like you would normally—for two minutes at a time twice a day. You should also floss daily.

However, when you brush your teeth, please use non-abrasive toothpaste. Some toothpastes often have particles of silica or calcium carbonate, which can damage veneers. We recommend using toothpastes designed for sensitive teeth that omit these ingredients. You can also consider visiting our dentist to discuss the type of toothpaste that could work best for you.
